Jobs
Editor (Part-Time)
Deadline: June 20, 2025
Help us nudge the zeitgeist. Fueling a sci-fi renaissance is an ambitious goal, but we think it’s important. One could make the argument that progress in science is limited by the degree to which public imagination is interested in science. It’s no coincidence that fantasy is the genre du jour and that our institutions revolve around Great Men and Great Bureaucrats.
Protocolized is looking for someone to take on editorial operations for the magazine to help us spark a change.
“Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today — but the core of science fiction, its essence, the concept about which it revolves, has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all.” - Isaac Asimov
Here’s who we’re looking for:
Some experience editing and publishing other people’s works, especially online.
Familiarity with the Summer of Protocols program and this magazine.
Available ~8 hours per week, for ~20 weeks.
We publish 2x week, which involves a providing round of light-touch edits to stories and case studies, writing subsections, helping authors create a Substack account, maintaining a content calendar, triaging pitches, and helping with review for writing contests. Based on this scope of work, it’s an 80/20 combination of operations skills/taste. We plan to award an $8,000 grant for this contract.
To apply, please send 2-3 paragraphs about you, your experience, and interest in the role and a résumé to research@summerofprotocols.com by June 20, 2025.
